Question: Will my mattress fit the Murphy Table™ cabinet - headboard?

Answer: This assembly is designed to fit standard* mattresses on a Hollywood bed frame. The mattress including the bedding can be up to 32" high and still clear the underneath side of the table.   

 *Twin (39" wide), Full (54" wide), Queen (60" wide)

Question: How big are the tables when fully extended?

Answer: Twin table – 41½" Wide x 80"Long

               Full table - 56½" Wide x 80"Long

               Queen table - 62½" Wide x 80"Long

Question: What is the finished size of the cabinet - headboard when the Murphy Table™ is inside of it?

Answer: Twin cabinet - 53¼" Wide x 7¾" Deep x 78½" Tall

               Full cabinet - 68½" Wide x 7¾"Deep x 78½" Tall

               Queen cabinet - 74½" Wide x 7¾" Deep x 78½" Tall  

*note they are all the same height and depth - the difference is in the width

Question: Can my bedding stay on the bed when I deploy (fold out) the Murphy Table™?

Answer: Yes, in most cases if the mattress isn't too tall or your bedding too full and fluffy.  (If we are going to be doing some art/painting, we do cover the bedding with a plastic drop cloth before deploying the transforming table.  Better safe than sorry we say!)

Question: What is the difference between a miter and a bevel cut?

Answer: In a Miter cut, the board is cut at an angle other than 90 degrees to its length and 90 degrees to its width

           -  In a Bevel cut, the board is cut 90 degrees to its length and at an angle other than 90 degrees to its width

Question: Where can I get high-quality wooden materials for my project?

Answer: The big Box stores in many areas have several species of hardwood and plywood including cabinet grade plywood. If you are lucky enough to have a woodworking store in your area, that opens a lot of opportunities in hardwood varieties and even some plywood options like ApplePly or Baltic Birch Ply.

             You can also find mail-order suppliers in the back of your woodworking magazines.

  • WOOD MAGAZINE, Issue 209 Dec/Jan, 2011/2012, also has an article on page 16 about buying veneer online. They also list their favorite online suppliers.
  • ApplePly (similar to Baltic Birch Ply) is available online at buyApplePly.com. It is available in seven sizes and thicknesses 1/4" through 1-1/2" thick.
